What's the history of Murray Farms?
Murray Farms has been at its present location since 1917 and is in its third generation of ownership. While we still grow various crops, in 2001 we decided to do something different by creating a corn maze for the public to enjoy. Take a hay ride on Saturday or Sunday (daytime) to learn more about our farm's history!
How was the corn maze created?
This takes a lot of planning and technical know-how! Designed by the Murray Family in connection with Furniture Row. Here is an article that summarizes how a maze is created. See our corn maze page for a look at our past mazes.
How big is the maze?
The entire design covers 15 acres on our farm. An acre is a little bigger than a football field!
How do you play the maze game?
Each maze contains numbered stations that correspond to the numbered boxes at the bottom of the maze map (purchased at the ticket window). When you arrive at a maze station, use the paper punch attached to the post to punch the correct box on your map. Race other members of your party to complete all the punches!
How long will it take to go through the maze?
As long as you want! If you're especially good at figuring out the maze or reading the maze map, you can speed right through the game. If you are playing the maze game without the map, it can take up to two hours. We recommend that you plan on spending at least one hour in the maze.
How scary is the haunted gauntlet and haunted house--are they too scary for children?
We leave that decision to the maze patron. For children, their parents/guardians should decide whether they shall visit the maze (including the haunted gauntlet) or haunted house (although we do believe it may be too scary for young children). Professional, costumed actors may follow patrons or surprise them.
Beginning in October, you can run the .25 mile haunted gauntlet in the maze and visit Murray's Massacre (in the haunted house) Friday through Sunday evenings. The main part of the maze is not haunted, and the gauntlet haunted only in the evenings during October.
Save on the fun by purchasing a combo ticket to visit both the maze/haunted gauntlet and haunted house!
We find that children age 6 and older get the most enjoyment in the maze. For the younger crowd, may we recommend visiting Anderson Farms or Berry Patch Farms.
We do not have a petting zoo. You may wish to check out another event at coloradocornmazes.com.
What else can I do?
At dusk, add an extra challenge by going through the maze in the dark. Flashlights are available for purchase.
Bring a picnic and use our seating areas on a first-come, first-served basis. Portable toilets and hand-washing stations are easily accessible.
Take a hay ride ($2) during the day on Saturday and Sunday and learn more about the history of Murray Farms. Hay rides are subject to demand.
Will there be Paintball?
Just as they did last year, APC will host paintball games after the maze event closes. Games will on the first two Saturdays and Sundays in November. Direct all queries about paintball to APC or call 303-298-8573. Also see the paintball page.
How may I pay for the event?
We accept cash, Visa and MasterCard only. Sorry, no personal checks. No refunds issued.
